Under certain circumstances, the IRS and SEC/CFTC whistleblower programs allow whistleblowers to proceed without an attorney. However, beacuse there are important considerations when deciding how to proceed, it is advisable to contact an experienced whistleblower attorney.
On July 21, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (the “Dodd-Frank Act”). The Act includes whistleblower reward programs for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
In addition to monetary incentives for reporting violations of the Securities Exchange Act or the Commodity Exchange Act, the Dodd-Frank Act also provides anti-retaliation protections for whistleblowers.
